Third Annual Belfast GLL Sport Foundation Awards at Belfast City Hall is bigger and better than ever!

On Thursday 31st May the third annual Belfast GLL Sport Foundation awards was held at Belfast City Hall with attendance from 120 people. This event celebrates the achievements and success of locally supported athletes. 81 athletes (116 in total)  in Belfast were recognised at the awards with an overall funding commitment of £69,800 from GLL.

The session ceremony was opened by the Lord Mayor of Belfast (Nuala McAllister, Alliance Party). Regional Community Sports Manager, Ronan McKenna, compered the evening alongside an inspirational contribution by GSF ambassador and 4  times Paralympian Gold medallist Michael McKillop. Regional Director, Gareth Kirk, chaired an athlete panel discussion which heard from Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist, James McGivern, GB Wheelchair Basketball athlete, Conn Nagle, and Taekwondo star Rachel McCune. 

The Lord Mayor and Gareth Kirk awarded the athletes with their funding and GSF certificates. Special recognition was given to the 12  GSF athletes returning from the Commonwealth Games by The Lord Mayor and Michael McKillop.There was attendance from partners and sponsors Belfast City Council, Mary Peters Trust, Rebound Physio, Sport NI and Social Enterprise NI. Social enterprise caterers (LOAF Catering) and videographers (Slack Press) were used to help support and deliver the event, highlighting GLL's commitment to include social enterprises. Social media activity has been busy this week with the work around the event, and gained positive interaction with athletes and wider networks in the last 24 hours.
